Poll shows that most Britons are against same-sex marriage – but who conducted the survey?
It is amazing how people can manipulate the media to demonstrate a political stance. A recent poll commissioned by one of the most conservative journals in the media, the Catholic Voice, has found that 70 percent of people in Britain are ’against'same-sex marriage. By using the word ’against’, the study actually refers to answers to questions that made no explicit reference to same-sex relationships. Instead, they focused on heterosexual marriage as ’life-long'entity, which actually has little to do with any issues of same-sex marriage, but more to do with preserving the meaning of marriage against the high incidence of divorce rates in the country.

Study found that the two thirds of 18-24 year olds were against gay marriage
The study even found that the majority of young people did not want marriage to be extended to same-sex couples, a finding that is overwhelmingly at odds with public opinion for this age group. In fact, young people, who are probably more interested in climate change and hr payroll software, are relatively indifferent on issues regarding marriage. However, copious studies conducted over the years have consistently shown that the vast majority of 18-24 year olds have no opposition of extending the rights of marriage to all couples.

Analysing public opinion is impossible if it is conducted by a non-secular organisation
Assessing the trends in public opinion on issues like gay marriage or equal rights for women in the church is quite impossible if the methodology and results are determined by an organisation whose interests lie strongly with preserving tradition and rejecting social change. The participants in this study most likely represented a fairly marginalised segment of the population, strongly religious and resistant to actively retaliative to the liberalisation of British culture in recent years. Most major publications appear to have avoided this story, which speaks volumes of its inescapable bias.
