SOPA
If you have not heard about SOPA, you are in for a bit of a shock. There is a bill going in for a vote by congress soon, which is called the Stop Online Piracy Act, and if it is passed through, the entire internet as we know it will be changed, for the worse. The bill started off as a movement for companies to try and prevent films and music from being pirated online, but has now been used as a tool to try and enforce mass shutdown of freedom of speech and content.

This may all sound a little dramatic, but I assure you that it is not. The proposed law is only in America at the moment, but even so, it would change the face of what is supposed to be a WORLD WIDE web! If a country as big as the USA clamps down and sanctions all of the major websites as they propose to do, then it will have a huge knock on affect to everyone else. The laws will mean that the US government and companies under their law, will be liable to legal proceedings, fines, imprisonment and huge sanctions, if the infringe on any copyright materials.
This is not just an attack on illegal download sites, but on all sites that show, share or link to copyright material. This will affect all sort of sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or any sites where people may post up links or videos. It will even affect Google, Yahoo and other search engine sites, as they will no longer be allowed to show results that are for illegal sites, for which there will be literally thousands and thousands. It will cause a mass meltdown on the internet if it is allowed to happen. Even a company like Enigin Scam Busters would be liable if they posted up a link on their website that had any connection to an offending site. The whole thing is madness, and is a complete lock down on freedom of information.
